i went to a hair stylist and she owns the salon with her husband. my mom and older sister said that i didn’t need to tip her. they said you only tip workers not the owners. but my 2 others sisters disagreed. who is right? i tiped her anyway cuz i was embarrassed. did i do the right thing?

My sister cut my hair for years, but she’s moved away and I’m now going to a fairly upscale salon (at least for my small town). The person cutting my hair is the owner and she charges $40 for a cut and style. How much should I tip her? Do I tip her more if I decide to get color or a perm? Is it based on the amount I’m spending? I would really appreciate an overview, I haven’t gone to a hair salon in over 20 years - yikes! Help!

I received a free shampoo, haircut and style from a salon owner in England as a result of a competition and my hair cut is due on Tuesday.Shall I tip the guy or it’s not indicated to tip the salon owner?
The stylist who will do my hair is the salon owner himself.

I’m going to get my hair colored this Sat at a local salon. I live in a small city, if that has anything to do with it. I’ve never gotten my hair colored at a salon before. Either me or my mom have done it in the past. I know you generally leave 15-20% tips for servers at resturants. Is it the same for stylists as well?? Thanks!!

Is that too much? Too little? What’s the rule? Usually at a restaurant, I give double the tax. Is it supposed to be about 15% at the hair salon? Same for getting nails done?

I work in a service job as well, so I understand the whole tip thing when you work with people.. However, I am a doctor and my profession (along with lawyers) has been labelled as the ‘worst tippers’. I dopn’t know why.
why is it unethical to tip your doctor but not your stylist??! ;-@)
